Other Therapies

Paraffin Bath Therapy and Hot Packs

Both paraffin bath therapy and hot packs are forms of superficial heat that may be used to help raise the temperature of soft tissues directly below the surface of the skin.

Heat applied to the surface of the skin enlarges blood vessels below the surface and relaxes tissues.  Heat can temporarily relieve painful symptoms, as well as muscle tightness and spasms. Increasing circulation and relaxing muscles in spasm is helpful before or after chiropractic adjustments, exercises and other forms of treatment.

Using heat to calm tissues suffering from long term spasm or irritation is an effective way to increase flexibility, range of motion, and promote increased circulation to speed the healing process.

Paraffin bath therapy is applied by dipping the hand in a warm, soothing paraffin wax, wrapping the hand, and placing it in a soft, comfortable heated mitt to maintain the heat during the course of treatment. It can be very benefical to those suffering from arthritis in the hands or carpal tunnel syndrome.
